Cole & Heidi Hamels earn Humantiarian award from sportswriters

Cole Hamels and his wife, Heidi, formed The Hamels Foundation in 2008, and the organization has been building a legacy every since.

The goal of The Hamels Foundation is to support low-income inner-city school systems in the United States through their grant programs, which provide for construction, educational supplies, and provisions as well as scholarship opportunities for continuing education of students.

Extending globally, The Hamels Foundation is dedicated to building a Primary School in the Namunda Village in Malawi, Africa Groundbreaking is anticipated to begin in the Spring of 2011, where donations to The Hamels Foundation have already provided a clean water source. The building of a Secondary School and a Pre-School will follow this endeavor.

The popular Phillies ace and his wife will be honored by the Philadelphia Sports Writers at the annual sports awards banquet on Monday, January 28, 2013, at the Crowne Plaze on Route 70 in Cherry Hill.
