West Chester’s Mike Washington is Outstanding Amateur

West Chester University standout Mike Washington

Mike Washington, the record-setting wide receiver from West Chester University and leading candidate for the Harlon Hill Trophy as outstanding player in the NCAA Division II, will be honored as the Philadelphia Sports Writers Association's top amateur athlete for 2008.

Washington, a graduate of Philadelphia's Frankford High School, holds the NCAA all-divisions record with a pass reception in 49 consecutive games. Just one of three collegiate receivers with at least 1,000 receiving yards in each of his four collegiate seasons (4,612 yards, 209 receptions, 57 touchdowns), he holds seven West Chester career records, including an average gain of 22.1 yards per reception.

Washington and the Golden Rams (9-3) have an NCAA Division II second-round playoff game at Bloomsburg on Saturday, Nov. 22.

Mike Washington will be one of the honored guests when the Sports Writers Association holds its 105th annual Award Dinner on Monday, January 26, 2009 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Cherry Hill, NJ. Other announced award winners are the Phillies, 2008's Team of the Year, and Humanitarian Adam Taliaferro. As always, the highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the Most Courageous Athlete Award.

Tickets are $75 apiece, and can be purchased by clicking here!
