Jimmy Rollins, whose brash declaration in January that the Phillies were “the team to beat” in the NL East, put his money where his mouth was and led the 2007 Phils to the Division Championship and their first post-season appearance in 14 years.

Rollins went on to win the National League Most Valuable Player Award, succeeding teammate Ryan Howard, who took the honors in 2006.

J-Ro hit .296, socked 30 homers, and drove in 94 runs. Not bad for a lead-off guy.

He also scored 139 times and swiped 41 bags.

Along the way, he also earned the Rawlings Gold Glove award for his superb defensive play at shortstop.

Rollins capped off this phenomenal year at the Philadelphia Sports Writers Association’s Awards Dinner, where he was honored with the Outstanding Pro Athlete award.

This year’s PSWA dinner, the 105th annual banquet put on by the Philadelphia Sports Writers Association, will be held on January 26, 2009, at the Crowne Plaze on Route 70 in Cherry Hill.

The dinner is open to the public. Tickets are $75, and can be purchased by clicking here.
