Dear Sports Fan -
The officers, board and membership of the Philadelphia Sports Writers Association are hard at work selecting award-winners and honored guests, and sketching plans for our 106th annual sports awards dinner on Monday evening, Feb. 1, 2010.
Each year, the PSWA event provides Philly-area sports fans with a memorable celebration of our most distinguished athletes and teams.
As always, the public is invited to the banquet, which will be held at the Crowne Plaza on Route 70 in Cherry Hill. Doors open at 5 p.m. and dinner starts at 6:30.
The organization’s committees are still deciding on the award winners, but PSWA president Jeff Asch has confirmed that the sportswriters will be honoring the Villanova University basketball team that stunned top-seeded Georgetown to win the NCAA championship in 1985.
Believe it or not, it has been 25 years since David beat Goliath, behind the leadership of coach Rollie Massimino and the play of Ed Pinckney, who was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Performer.
The 2009 Philadelphia Phillies will also be honored after repeating as champions of the National League and advancing to the World Series.
The Phils thrilled their fans all season long with improbable comebacks, outstanding individual performances, and a popular manager who seemed to have the right solution for every.
More guests and award-winners will be announced in the coming weeks. For the latest information, please visit the Philadelphia Sports Writers Association web site at www.PSWA.org.
Tickets are $75 each ($900 for a table of 12) and can be purchased online by clicking here.
Thank you,
